George Barbier

George Barbier (1882–1932) was a French illustrator, costume designer and writer active in Paris from 1911 until his death. Born Georges Augustin Barbier in Nantes, he studied under Jean-Paul Laurens at the École des Beaux-Arts and held his first exhibition in 1911. He produced pochoir fashion plates and essays for Gazette du Bon Ton, Journal des Dames et des Modes, Modes et Manières d'Aujourd'hui, Femina, Vogue and La Vie Parisienne, and designed costumes for theatre, ballet and film. Vogue grouped him with Paul Iribe, Georges Lepape, Charles Martin, Bernard Boutet de Monvel and Pierre Brissaud under the name "The Knights of the Bracelet". He died in Paris in 1932.
